Using the Schematic Editor, you can create schematics to supplement the infographics in your dashboards or presentations.
Access the editor by navigating to Applications in the left-hand navigation and selecting Schematic Editor. From there, you can choose to create a New Schematic or Browse Schematics to display all schematics available to your role.
Creating a New Schematic
To create a new schematic:
Open Applications → Schematic Editor
Click New Schematic
A blank canvas will open where you can begin building your schematic
Interacting with the Canvas
The canvas is your main workspace for building and navigating schematics. It supports intuitive mouse and keyboard interactions to help you move efficiently while editing.
Navigation Controls:
Left-click + drag (empty space) → Move the entire canvas
Right-click + drag → Pan within the canvas
Scroll wheel → Zoom in and out
Working with Nodes
Nodes are the building blocks of a schematic. Each node represents a shape, image, text label, or variable.
To add a node, click and drag a node from the left sidebar to anywhere on the canvas
You can resize, reposition, or delete nodes at any time. Common actions are available through keyboard shortcuts such as Backspace/Delete, Ctrl + C (copy), and Ctrl + V (paste), as well as through the action buttons located above the canvas.
Editing Node Properties
When a node is selected, its properties appear in the Properties Panel.
From here you can:
Change colors
Adjust stroke width
Edit labels or text (if applicable)
Configure variable behavior (if applicable)
Connecting Nodes with Edges
Nodes include handles, which are small connection points used to create edges.
To connect nodes:
Click any node to view its handles and all other handles an edge can be connected to
Drag from a handle on one node
Drop the connection onto a handle on another node
This creates an edge between the two nodes.
When creating or selecting an edge, you can customize its appearance and behavior, including:
Arrowheads on one or both ends, or no arrowheads
Line style, such as solid or dashed
Edge path type, including straight, step, smooth step, or bezier paths
These options allow you to clearly represent direction, flow, and hierarchy within your schematic.
Edges can also be delete in the same was as nodes, using Backspace/Delete or the Delete button above the canvas.
Creating Floating Edges
In some cases, you may want to create connections that are not attached to a specific node. Floating edges allow you to represent flow, direction, or annotations without requiring both ends to be connected.
To create a floating edge:
Select a connector type from the left sidebar
Click and drag on an empty area of the canvas
Release to create a floating edge with an endpoint
You can also:
Adjust the position of floating endpoints by dragging them
Style floating edges the same way as regular edges (arrowheads, line type, path, etc.)
Using Waypoints (Intermediate Nodes)
Waypoints allow you to control the path of an edge by adding intermediate points. This is useful for creating clean, readable diagrams and guiding edges around other nodes.
To add a waypoint:
Double-click anywhere on an existing edge
A waypoint (intermediate node) will be created at that location
You can then:
Drag the waypoint to adjust where the edge bends
Add multiple waypoints to create more complex paths
Reposition waypoints at any time to refine the layout
Using Variables
Variables allow schematics to display live or time-based process data.
Variables can be placed like other nodes
When viewed in dashboards, variable values update automatically
Timeframes and data behavior are configured in the Properties Panel
Selection Mode
Selection mode allows you to select multiple nodes and edges at once, allowing you to copy/cut and paste, or bulk delete elements of your schematic
Saving a Schematic
To save your schematic:
Click the Save icon in the top toolbar
Enter a name
Select an organization
Confirm to save
Saved schematics can be reused across dashboards and presentations.
