What are variables?
Variables are data series which are filled with past and actual values associated to exact time points. They store and display the data that powers dashboards, targets, alerts, and many other features within ioTORQ. There are two types of variables: Automatic and Virtual.
Automatic variables are used to import raw data, whether from an onsite meter, a third-party FTP connection, an upload from a CSV file, or more. Automatic variables are the base level of ioTORQ, and each has a unique identifying code.
Virtual variables are used to manipulate other variables through a variety of mathematical operations and display options. Each virtual variable can have a custom equation to evaluate data in different ways.
How do I create a variable?
Variables are created from the Variables feature group by selecting New variable. The individual settings used to create a variable are described in greater detail in each of the variable type pages: Automatic variables or Virtual variables.

You can view a list of all variables in the parent organization by hovering your mouse over the Variables feature group icon on the left side and selecting See All Variables. You can search for specific variables by entering keywords in the search bar at the top of the list or by scrolling through the list.
